    Summary quotation from Wikipedia:

“Cheerleader” is a song recorded by Jamaican singer OMI. The track was written and produced by OMI and C. Dillon, with additional writing by M. Bradford and R. Dillon. It is a reggae fusion song. “Cheerleader” was originally released in 2012 through Oufah Records.

A remix of the song by German producer Felix Jaehn was released through Ultra Music on 19 May 2014. In late 2014 the remix topped the Swedish charts and later on several other European charts including the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Moreover, it peaked at number one in Australia, Canada and the United States. Overall, the song has reached the top-ten in 30 countries worldwide. It has also been certified platinum in both the United Kingdom and the United States for selling over 1,000,000 copies.

Release and chart performance

“Cheerleader” was originally released in 2012 through Oufah Records, charting solely in OMI’s native country. The Felix Jaehn remix of “Cheerleader” was initially planned to be released in Britain in May 2015. However, its release date was brought forward to a new date of 12 April 2015. The decision was made as a result of the remix’s popularity on streaming media and it entering the UK Singles Chart at number 37 on streams alone.

In Britain, upon its official release, it jumped from number 27 to number two in the 20 April 2015 chart update, selling 129,257 copies, with 26,288 of those being streaming sales. It hit the number one spot during its third week on sale, being fuelled by streaming sales which accounted for 35,324 of its total sales of 112,626 that week and stayed there for four weeks. By 15 June 2015, it had sold a total of 994,000 copies in Britain including streaming.

In the United States, “Cheerleader” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on the week ending July 25, 2015, replacing Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth which had spent twelve weeks atop the chart. During that week, it sold 276,000 copies (The sales tracking period for that week was 11 days instead of the usual 7 due to a chart policy change, so the sales of the song are higher than they would be in a typical 7 day period). As of the chart week of July 25, 2015, “Cheerleader” has reached number 3 on the Streaming Songs chart, topped the Digital Songs chart for two weeks, and reached number 6 on the Radio Songs chart.
