Background and composition
Domino was written by Lukasz Gottwald, Claude Kelly, Max Martin, Henry Walter, and Jessie J herself. The production of the song was helmed by Gottwald under his stage name Dr. Luke and Cirkut (record producer). In July, 2011, Jessie J teased her fans via her official Twitter profile whilst posting 21-second clip of the song. Domino officially premiered on 16 August 2011 on Jessie J official YouTube account. During an interview with MTV Buzzworthy, Jessie J further explained the concept behind the song, People have heard Domino and said its nothing like you. But Im like well the albums really eclectic anyway, and I never go into the studio and say I wanna do another song thats like Price Tag or another song like Do It Like a Dude. In the same interview Jessie J unveiled that she listened to Whitney Houston and Prince a lot, so she came up with an idea to write a song that is timeless, fun and uplifting. The song was released as lead single from the platinum edition of Jessie Js debut album Who You Are and fifth overall.
Domino is a primarily a dance pop and pop rock song, but it also draws influences from disco and R&B. It is written in the key of G major with a tempo of 124 beats per minute, following the chord progression G5GsusGGsus. Jessies vocals span from D4 to D5.
Music video
After recovering from an injury to her foot (which had forced her to pull out of Katy Perrys California Dreams Tour under doctors orders in 2011), Jessie J then resumed filming and by 11 November she announced on her official Twitter page that that they have finished shooting the video. It eventually premiered on 26 December 2011. This version was directed by Ray Kay, and depicts her in various costumes.
