Summary quotation from Wikipedia:
I Put a Spell on You, a song originally by Screamin Jay Hawkins. The original version gave the song an ironic theme, but Nina Simone transformed it into a thrilling love song, complete with horns and strings. It had become one of her most well known songs. She used the title for her autobiography I Put A Spell On You (1992). The Beatles drew inspiration from the song for their song Michelle.
I Put a Spell on You is a 1956 song written by Screamin Jay Hawkins, whose recording was selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fames 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. It was also ranked No. 313 on Rolling Stone magazines list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Although Hawkins version did not make any charts, several later cover versions have done so. Nina Simones version reached No. 23 on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart in 1965; it also reached No. 49 on the UK singles chart that year, and No. 28 when it was reissued in 1969.
