Musically, Lips Are Movin is a pop, 50s/60s influenced doo-wop and a blue-eyed soul song which lyrically finds Trainor abandoning her boyfriend after she discovers he is cheating on her, while she sings I know you lie because your lips are movin/ Tell me do you think Im dumb?/ I might be young, but I aint stupid/ Talking circles with your tongue. The track was described by critics as having a similar feel to Trainors previous single, All About That Bass as she raps, Boy, look at me in my face/ Tell me that youre not just about this bass/ You really think I could be replaced/ Nah, I come from outer space.
