Truffle Butter is a song by Trinidadian-American rapper Nicki Minaj featuring Canadian rapper Drake and American rapper Lil Wayne. It was originally an iTunes Store-exclusive bonus track from Minajs third studio album The Pinkprint (2014), although it was later released through additional online music stores and online streaming services on January 23, 2015. It was released as the fifth single from the record by Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Republic Records. The track has so far reached number 26 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Composition
Truffle Butter features label mates Drake and Lil Wayne, and samples Maya Jane Coles house song What They Say (2010), all three rappers begin their verses with the phrase Thinkin out loud, in what was described by Alex Macpherson of The Guardian as a relaxed, spontaneous mode. The track is lyrically a complex, subwoofer-ready song. On January 29, 2015 rapper Ludacris released a short remix of the song as part of his weekly LudaVerses series.
Release
Due to unplanned popularity, Truffle Butter featuring Drake and Lil Wayne was released on iTunes and Spotify for purchase and streaming separately from the album on January 23, 2015. Shortly after its release, Truffle Butter became a top 20 hit at both urban and rhythmic radios. Since its release, the song has peaked at 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, number nine on the Hip-Hop/R&B Songs, and number six on the Rap Songs Charts. Republic then announced their plans to issue The Night is Still Young as the next single from The Pinkprint, however, serviced Truffle Butter to go for pop radio adds beginning March 3, 2015.
Commercial performance
Truffle Butter debuted at number 71 on the US Billboard Hot 100. In doing so, Minaj made her 60th appearance on Hot 100 making her the fifteenth artist to do so. It also extended her lead as the third most appearances on the Hot 100 among women below Aretha Franklin (73) and Taylor Swift (66). The song also gave Drake his 74th entry, tying him with Ray Charles for sixth most chart appearances, and Lil Wayne his 124th entry, second only to the cast of Foxs Glees record 207. As of February 8, 2015, Truffle Butter has sold 173,404 units in the United States.
On August 5, 2012, producer Noah 40 Shebib posted the song Enough Said by the late singer Aaliyah featuring Drizzy. Aailayahs voice is supported by40s signature dark soundscapes.
Drake is reportedly executive producer of an posthumous Aaliyah album. There is a great deal of debate as to whether an entire album is planned and whether this is appropriate, especially without the input of long-time Aaliyah collaborators Timbaland and Missy Elliott. Drake is known for a deep fascination with Aaliyah, which some commentators claim borders of macabre. Aailayah died in a plane crash in August 2001 at the height of her R&B fame.
The logo for Enough Said features the logo of both Drake's October Very Own and Blackground Records, whose first signee was Aaliyah.
Timbaland, a long time collaborator with Aaliyah, who is also signed by Blackground Records, told Power 105s The Breakfast Club, I know they trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if [Drake] do it, it should be with me and him, and Missy [Elliott]. I dont know whats going on. The proper way to do that would be for me, him, and Missy to be all on the record. For it to be on his record, that would not be right.
