    Jon Lord, keyboardist for Deep Purple and Whitesnake, died of a pulmonary embolism in London, England, on Monday, July 16, 2012, resulting from pancreatic cancer.
    Jon Lord was 71.
    Jon Lord co-wrote such Deep Purple hits as “Smoke on the Water”.
    After attending drama school in London, Jon Lord joined the blues band the Atwoods in 1964, followed by touring with The Flowerpot Men (hit song "Let's Go To San Francisco").
    Jon Lord joined Deep Purple in 1968.
    Jon Lord joined Whitesnake in the late 1970s.
