    Summary quotation from Wikipedia:

“Love Me Like You Do” is a song recorded by English recording artist Ellie Goulding for the soundtrack to the film Fifty Shades of Grey (2015). The song was written by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Ilya Salmanzadeh, Ali Payami, and Tove Lo, and produced by Martin and Payami. It was released on 7 January 2015 as the second single from the soundtrack.

Critical reception

“Love Me Like You Do” received acclaim from music critics. Samantha Grossman of Time called the song “sultry” and dubbed it a “solid addition to the Fifty Shades soundtrack.” Ryan Reed of Rolling Stone opined that “the results [of the song] are grandiose, considering the film’s sensual subject matter.” Jim Farber of the NY Daily News wrote, “With her little-girl-lost voice, Goulding sounds sweet even when she’s courting danger. The music, likewise, goes for a high gloss take on romance, recalling the heavily echoed beats and dense synthesizers of a Phil Collins ballad from the ’80s.”

Robbie Daw of Idolator described “Love Me Like You Do” as “a sweeping power ballad that finds Goulding delivering soft, understated vocals over producer Max Martin’s swelling bed of synths.” Direct Lyrics stated, “Everything Ellie Goulding does and records is flawless and ‘Love Me Like You Do’ is no exception. A drum-heavy nostalgic production is the perfect ambiance for Ellie’s ethereal vocals.” Lucas Villa of AXS commended Goulding for “masterfully tread[ing] between delicacy and power in her performance”, calling the song “intimately magnificent”.

In a less favorable review, Jason Lipshutz from Billboard gave the song two and half stars out of five, complimenting Ellie’s voice as “one of pop’s more distinct voices” and the tune’s “colossal chorus”, while panning its “cliched lyrics.”

Commercial performance

“Love Me Like You Do” debuted at number forty-five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated 24 January 2015. The following week, the song jumped to number thirty-six, before climbing to number twenty in its third week, becoming Goulding’s third solo top twenty hit on the chart. On the Canadian Hot 100, the single debuted at number thirty-eight for the week ending 24 January 2015, peaking two weeks later at number twenty-three.

In Oceania, “Love Me Like You Do” debuted at number eight on Australia Singles Chart and number three on New Zealand Singles Chart.

In Europe, “Love Me Like You Do” peaked at number one in Sweden, and charted within the top ten in Belgium, Denmark, Finland and Norway.
